Confession: This project kind of messed up. Lol. Don't get me wrong, I like the way it turned out - a lot but as I was starting this, I had the vision in my mind that it's going to be quick easy, and kick-ass. I kinda struggled with making look a little bit more fun and playful but in the end, I was able to make something better than my glorified vision.
Back story: I've been wanting to try to make DIY pom-poms just because I think they are cute but when I actually tried out the tutorials I saw on Pinterest, I found that the techniques were not very accurate. Example, when using the fork technique - it's actually very hard to tie the loose yarns together to cinch the middle section of the coiled yarn. I ended up with a flat, stubby bundle that just won't work. The cardboard technique on the other hand was - well, nobody got time for that. So I thought of just using my fingers to roll the yarn into a bundle, used elastics/rubber band to cinch the middle part and then just trimmed the edges to give the pom-pom its cuddly look. I documented it down for you:
As for the pom-pom art, this is what used and did:
Yarn - of course
Acryllic paints (not in the photo)
After I have done all the pom-poms that I was going to need, I started to work on the board. I just drew imperfect vertical lines to serve as the stem. (I was going for Dr Seuss trees). Then I wanted to soften those lines a bit so I sprayed alcohol over them and it did get diffused. Way diffused so I ran the sharpie down the imperfect lines once again just to give it a nice outline. (I, of course waited for the alcohol to dry before I ran my Sharpie there.)
Next, I used my glue gun to glue the pompoms in place. Careful not to stick the glue part on the rubber band because it will snap and it will just be a depressing mess. I learned it the hard way.
And then, it looked bland. So I decided to use some acrylic paint and did a little bit of Picasso moves to create a nice pastel-ly background.
Pretty pleased with how it turned out.
For the finishing touch, I then added freehanded writing to make it look more adorable.
Finished! Let me know if you like it? Have a great weekend ahead guys and keep safe!
